In addition to the 2022 Online MSP, Nelson Mandela University has created a targeted 2022 Online Masters Cohort Study Support Programme (MCSP) that intends to provide two punctuated opportunities to develop a deepening of research skills consistent with completing a Masters. The MCSP intends to provide facilitated support for Masters candidates as they proceed with their research project attendant to a Masters qualification. One round of this MCSP has been run online in 2020, and the intention is to offer support to other participants who respond positively to the call. The 2022 MCSP, is funded by DHET through the University Capacity Development Grant (UCDG).

The programme has two objectives:

  • facilitate customised support for Masters candidates, better to engage with the research process of their Masters and consequent discussions with their supervisors
  • open up engagements towards a cohort that facilitates peer learning and academic networking

Target cohort:

  • Staff members and postgraduate students currently studying towards a Masters. Although priority will be given staff, students will not be excluded should there be space available.

The Programme entails two separate modules of three-days in length that will provide targeted presentations, readings and formative exercises to hone research skills within the Masters stage. The strategy is to ensure that essential skills in terms of conceptual and empirical understanding related to a Masters study are in place.

Modules are facilitated by two experienced methodologist/s who facilitate postgraduate research skills and knowledge.

Important criteria considered for candidates to be admitted to the Masters Cohort Study Support Programme (MCSP) are as follows::

  • have successfully completed an Honours degree
  • be registered for a Master’s degree
  • in the process of finalising and defending your Master’s proposal
  • be able to commit to ‘attend’ the 2 modules virtually

If you are unable to commit to attending both modules, kindly omit submitting your application please. We do our best to accommodate all candidates, and when candidates simply do not pitch for the full duration of modules, you deprive the next Nelson Mandela University staff member/postgraduate student from partaking in this development opportunity.

The dates for the 2022 Online Programme are as follows

  • Cohort Support Module 1: 28 - 30 June 2022
  • Cohort Support Module 2: 7 - 9 September 2022
