Target Group: Masters and Doctoral Candidates

Background: : A literature review is a critical analysis of published works on a particular topic while problem identification is based on the reviewed literature. Understanding where the gaps are in published literature presents an opportunity to meaningfully engage on a research topic and make a worthwhile contribution to knowledge. This approach may be applied to the formulation of theses, journal articles, book chapters or books. It requires the ability to clearly demonstrate where the proposed work fits into existing literature and advances knowledge creation.

Workshop Outcomes:

  • Participants will receive a set of tools to facilitate the identification of key authors, key debates, unanswered questions and ultimately lead to the development of a problem statement.

This workshop is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) through the University Capacity Development Grant (UCDG)
