The 2023 Doctoral Study Support Programme (DSP) funded by DHET through the University Capacity Development Grant (UCDG), is an initiative aimed at supporting Nelson Mandela University staff pursuing doctoral degrees to navigate the road of developing a sound doctoral proposal. The initiative supports Mandela University’s Vision 2030 to invest in the development and retention of early career academics to promote talent continuity, research productivity and academic excellence. Although priority will be given to academic staff, PASS staff members are very welcome to apply.
The Programme consists of four modules of approximately four weeks. The first three modules are devoted to framing the research proposal as well as exposure to research methodologies. This process culminates in a fourth module which takes the form of a proposal defence where draft proposals are presented and feedback provided. The learning takes place virtually.
Modules are facilitated by two experienced methodologist/s who facilitate postgraduate research skills and knowledge.
Important criteria considered for candidates to be admitted to the Doctoral Study Support Programme (DSP) are as follows::

have successfully completed an Masters degree

be registered or about to register for a Doctoral degree

be able to commit to ‘attend’ all 4 modules virtually

will aim to complete studies in a period of 3-5 years
If you are unable to commit to attending all 4 modules, kindly omit submitting your application please. We do our best to accommodate all candidates, and when candidates simply do not pitch for the full duration of modules, you deprive the next Nelson Mandela University staff member from partaking in this development opportunity.
In addition to the above, Doctoral candidates should ideally have a supervisor and /or co-supervisor already assigned, and the candidate be committed to the performance of their duties as a participant of the programme through full attendance of the 4 modules.
