Facilitator: Prof Kambidima Wotela is an esteemed scholar in the field of demography and population studies, holding degrees in these disciplines from prestigious institutions. Throughout his academic journey, Prof Wotela has been recognised for his outstanding achievements, receiving scholarships and fellowships, including the esteemed William and Flora Hewlett Foundation Fellowship and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Scholarship.

Currently, Prof Wotela shares his wealth of knowledge and expertise as a Faculty member at the WITS Graduate School of Governance. He is known for his dedication to teaching systems thinking, monitoring and evaluation, and research and analytical methods, inspiring countless students along the way. Of particular significance is Prof Wotela's research focus on approaches to research supervision, a critical aspect of academic mentorship that shapes the future of scholarly inquiry. His contributions in this area are invaluable to our academic community and beyond.
 

Target Group: Postgraduate students doing their Honours, Masters and Doctoral research studies.

 

Background: This workshop examines how a conceptual research framework can be derived through reviewing literature.

 

Expected Outcomes: The following areas will be addressed through the discussions and with support from literature:

  • Research problem
  • Research knowledge gap
  • Key attributes or variables
  • Frameworks for interpreting empirical research results

 

Requirements: All participants need to have drafted the following aspects of their research:

  • Research title
  • Research problem statement
  • Research purpose (aims and objectives)
  • Research questions and where applicable the accompanying research hypotheses or propositions.
