Facilitator: Dr Munkombwe Muchindu holds a PhD in Chemistry and brings over 14 years of full-time professional experience to her role as a facilitator. Her journey with thesis writing began during her undergraduate studies, where she completed a mini-thesis for her final-year BSc project. Building on this foundation, she successfully submitted a full dissertation and a journal article for her MSc degree, followed by a comprehensive thesis and several peer-reviewed journal articles for her PhD.

Over her 11 years as a scientist, Dr Muchindu authored additional journal articles and contributed a book chapter to her field of expertise. She has also played a pivotal role in mentoring and guiding postgraduate students as a co-supervisor and has served as an external examiner for several institutions, including the University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria, University of Venda, and the University of the Western Cape.

Dr Muchindu’s wealth of academic and practical experience makes her an invaluable resource for postgraduate students navigating the complexities of research and thesis writing.

Target Group: Masters and Doctoral Candidates

Background: A literature review is a critical analysis of published works on a particular topic while Problem identification is based on the reviewed literature. Understanding where the gaps are in published literature presents an opportunity to meaningfully engage on a research topic and make a worthwhile contribution to knowledge. This approach may be applied to the formulation of theses, journal articles, book chapters or books. It requires the ability to clearly demonstrate where the proposed work fits into existing literature and advance knowledge creation.

Workshop Outcomes:

  • Participants will receive a set of tools to facilitate the identification of key authors, key debates, unanswered questions and ultimately lead to the development of a leading to problem statement.

This workshop is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) through the University Capacity Development Grant (UCDG)
