Proposal Writing, Research Design & Thesis Writing

 

Target Group: Emerging Researchers, Masters and Doctoral Candidates

 

Objectives:
The objectives of the workshop are to introduce and provide the participants with knowledge and strategies which will allow them to:

• Conceptualize their research ideas
• Understand the basics of proposal writing as the first step in thesis writing
• Conduct literature reviews and synthesize the literature
• Identify the research questions and formulate proper hypothesis and objectives
• Understand and appreciate the differences between qualitative and quantitative research designs and selecting appropriate methods
• Gain confidence in academic writing and science communication in general

 

Learning Outcomes:

• Knowledge of mind-mapping techniques and how to use them to develop a concept
• Working knowledge ideation, concept development and putting it down on paper into a coherent proposal
• Time and resource management in the research proposal writing process
• The do’s and don’ts of proposal writing
• Critical appraisal of literature and ability to write review papers as a basis for proposal writing
• Knowledge of databases and reference management

 

Requirements: The workshop is highly interactive and participants are asked to complete the pre-course assignments. Continued mentoring is also offered after the course.
