Facilitator: Ms Carmen Stindt has worked as a Statistical Consultant since 2016, assisting postgraduate students and researchers with statistical analysis for their degree or research papers. She currently runs her own statistical consultation company, Eversci, and has previously lectured at Nelson Mandela University. Ms Stindt also facilitates monthly workshops for postgraduate students and staff, with a passion for empowering students with statistical understanding. She holds an MCom in Statistics Research and is pursuing a PhD in Mathematical Statistics.

Target Group: Postgraduate Students.

Background: This workshop will focus on ANOVA, MANOVAs and ANCOVAs. Students will be working in R and Excel. The workshop will also cover the R commander package used in R and the Blue Sky Statistics Programme that will assist researchers in their analysis. An introduction into R will also be given to the students such that those that who have not worked with R can also attend. A recap on Hypothesis testing will be given with a reminder of basic statistics required for the ANOVA’s.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
    • Factorial experiment, two factor completely randomized experiment
    • Two factor, randomized block design
    • Single factor, repeated measures design
    • Single factor, independent measures design
  • Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA)
  • Introduction to Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA)

This workshop is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) through the University Capacity Development Grant (UCDG)
