Facilitator: Mr Siyanda Manqele is currently the Manager of Research Ethics and Postgraduate Studies at the University of Zululand. He is responsible for overseeing the institutional Research Ethics Committees (RECs) for Animal Use (AREC) and Human Subjects (HREC), as well as managing the Higher Degrees Committee administration. In addition, he manages the research capacity development, supervision, environment, and examination compliance processes for all postgraduate students. With 14 years of experience in research management and administration across various higher education institutions, Siyanda has previously worked at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), where he focused on research outputs and publications, and at Rhodes University (RU), where he was involved in research ethics management, coordination, and administration for both HREC and AREC. Siyanda is the chairperson and founder of the Eastern Region "Community of Practice" (CoP) for research ethics management, formally launched by SARIMA in July 2020. He also serves as an editor for the Journal of Research Management and Administration (JoRMA) at Coventry University, UK. In recognition of his expertise and contributions, Siyanda was awarded the DSI/SARIMA Professional Excellence Award in Research Management at the 2021 SARIMA conference. Furthermore, in 2023, he was granted international professional recognition as a Research Management Professional (RMP) by the International Professional Recognition Council (IPRC), with this status valid from 2023 to 2028.
