Ethics Waiver

Researchers may request an ethics waiver when a formal ethics review is not considered necessary, but evidence of ethics review is still required. For instance, when submitting to a journal or applying for funding.

We recommend consulting the RECH Risk Assessment guidelines to determine whether your study qualifies for exemption from full ethics review. Any request for a waiver must include a clear justification, explaining how the study meets the criteria outlined in the guidelines.

All waiver requests must be completed on the Ethics Waiver Request Form and submitted to the Ethics Office (ResearchEthics@mandela.ac.za).
