Target Group: Masters and Doctoral Candidates, Postdoctoral Fellows and Academics

Background: The transition from writing a thesis to preparing a journal article can be challenging for emerging researchers. This workshop provides participants with a safe space dedicated to writing and review with clear guidelines for application. Input is provided and participants then craft their article with one-on-one discussion and feedback from the facilitators during the writing process. At the end of the workshop, the article will be in a format appropriate for the selected journal. It is possible to complete the article within the 3-day workshop if participants come adequately prepared, work according to the programme and attend the full workshop.

Participants need to:

  • Bring along a draft article which implies that the research must be complete (with all data already analysed and all literature already sourced). The draft article should be submitted to the workshop coordinator (Jadine.Januarie@mandela.ac.za) by 30 October 2023 for participants to be considered for inclusion in the workshop. Draft articles may be submitted with the application form if they are already available.
  • Have identified a journal to which the article will be submitted before attending the workshop (kindly consult with supervisor/co-authors before the workshop).
  • Bring along the guidelines for their selected journal and an example of an article published in that journal.
  • Have access to a computer with Microsoft TEAMS installed with fully functional audio and video settings. Kindly check its functionality with technical experts before the workshop.
  • Have email access and reliable internet connectivity. Due to the interactive experiential approach used in the writing cycle, a recording of the sessions will not be possible.
  • Commit to attending all sessions without exception.
  • Download the cover page document for use during the workshop.

This workshop is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) through the University Capacity Development Grant (UCDG)
